Open-Plug’s ELIPS framework available on Philips Nexperia mobile platforms New mobile industry reference provides openness, configurability and design-friendliness 3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France, 14 February 2005 – Open-Plug, a leading provider of new generation software framework for mass-market phones, today announced it has joined the Philips NexperiaTM Partner Program, now optimized for mobile applications.
Under the program, the OpenPlug ELIPS software becomes available on Philips Nexperia mobile phone platforms. This initiative will enable Philips and its partners to rapidly address the hardware and software needs of mobile phone manufacturers today. “The latest Nexperia platforms offer the performance and features required to support multimedia applications and features on cost effective mobile platforms” said Eric Baissus, CEO of Open-Plug, “By making ELIPS available on all of these Nexperia platforms, we provide our application software partners and mobile phone customers with unique means to compete in the mobile phone market through unmatched time to market and configurability of new mobile designs, applications and services.” With the ELIPS software integrated, Philips’ customers can enjoy the benefits of a single, common development platform targeting mobile devices, reducing the integration effort by up to 5-10 times compared to today’s conventional integration process thanks to the ELIPS tools’ component based technology and the Linux APIs. This simple approach will not only enable them to easily re-use valuable software IP across multiple phone designs but also offers the potential to roll out new applications and user interface features very quickly, even remotely with phones already in the field. The open Linux API that is a feature of the Open Plug environment allows Philips customers to harness the large global resource of Linux expertise in phone development. Specifically, customers can access a large and growing developer community offering standard and tailored applications and services such as gaming, Push to Talk, video, security, and all the new fast-extendable applications. The ELIPS on Philips Nexperia mobile platforms will be demonstrated at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes. Evaluation copies are available on request.
