PT-Wireless Beijing Exhibit: Open-Plug’s ELIPS Framework to dramatically reduce feature phone development effort.

The demo will be presented on Texas Instruments’ #5D01 Booth on Oct 20-22. It runs on Texas Instruments’ TCS2200 Platform

Sophia Antipolis, France – 14 October 2005. Confronted with increased complexity and a need to offer faster and faster innovative mobile phones to demanding subscribers and operators, handset manufacturers are looking for concrete solutions to boost time to market. And especially so on the feature phones and low cost devices markets, which are key to the wireless market development, given the impressive number of such phones manufactured each year.

On October 20 & 21, Open-Plug, the only provider of open software application framework for mass-market mobile phones, will demonstrate how its software framework reduces software development and integration effort at PT/Wireless Network & Comm China 2005 in Beijing, China in booth of Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), #5D01 in Hall 5.

Eric Baissus, Open-Plug’s CEO says: “Ours is not just another great engineer’s idea. It’s a reliable and safe solution to satisfy an ever growing and dynamic market. Imagine you are a handset maker and you have to rapidly integrate a new feature for an operator. So what? So, you’ve got a few months left to get it done. No more... and you would expect your software team to use a software technology which is flexible enough to achieve this challenge. This is where our solution can make the difference since it allows for the integration of any application on TI wireless platforms AND guarantees dramatically reduced integration and validation efforts”

THE DEMO

The demo runs with Open-Plug’s ELIPS application framework and some applications built and integrated with ELIPS Studio on a TI TCS2200 platform. Through this real-life example, the benefits brought by Open-Plug's ELIPS framework to all actors of the mobile phone value chain are clearly highlighted:

Plug componentized applications - Thanks to Open-Plug’s technological breakthrough, each application being an independent component, adding and dropping features becomes possible with no intrusion on the underlying proprietary platform and OS.

Full control over the design and development cycle. Increased creativity With this open application framework and the possibility it offers to integrate any application easily, handset manufacturers and carriers get full control over their mobile phone design. And this is today the key to be able to offer customers the phone they ask for.

No more learning curve. Reduced development efforts. Because ELIPS Framework provides a Linux-like interface, application developers develop as if they were developing on Linux and therefore are immediately operational on Open-Plug’s solutions. They prototype their applications on regular PCs using C language.

Homogeneous environment. Smoother integration over product lines. ELIPS offers phone makers a consistent development environment to distribute to their partners. In return, they get consistent deliveries that are much easier to integrate. Also, ELIPS creates a consistent software architecture across all handset segments and on which it is ported, thus mutualizing development efforts.

Reduced costs and shorter time-to-market. The demo illustrates how Open-Plug’s ELIPS products provide the industry with greater software development productivity, thus shortening time-to-market.

THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND

Open-Plug’s FlexibleWareTM core technology delivers the flexibility of the component-based approach to mobile phones with no resource or power consumption penalty. The Embedded Linux Plug-in System (ELIPS) Framework from Open-Plug is the first next-generation embedded software framework for mobile phones to be made available on Texas Instruments platforms.

ELIPS Framework features a complete Linux-like mobile phone applications framework including GUI toolkit, POSIX-like system API, telephony interface, multimedia framework, all powered by Open-Plug's revolutionary Flexibleware technology.

Developing mobile phone MMIs for platforms that are ELIPS-enabled like TI's TCS2200 can be made extremely smooth thanks to ELIPS Studio, a suite of PC Tools aimed at enhancing developers' productivity. ELIPS Studio notably enables developers to do 85% of their development and integration work on PC, using a plug-in to their usual IDE (including Open-Plug's build tool chain, the component generator), as well as a full-featured customizable simulator enabling advanced prototyping.
