Open-Plug announces the availability of its ELIPS Framework and Application Suite on Texas Instruments “LoCosto” and OMAP-Vox™ Platforms

A single software solution to design various handsets from low-cost to mid-tier multimedia phones enabling handset makers to reduce their cost and improve time-to-market

3GSM World Congress, Barcelona– February, 12th 2007 – Open-Plug, a leading supplier of mass market software platforms for the handset industry, today announced the availability of ELIPS Framework and Application Suite on Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI’s) “LoCosto” and OMAPV0130 OMAP-Vox™ solutions enabling handset makers to rapidly design low- to mid-tier feature-rich phones from a single software package. The combined solutions are demonstrated in Barcelona at 3GSM World Congress 2007 at both Open-Plug’s booth (# 2.1A32) and TI’s booth (#8A84).

“Despite the still increasing number of handsets sold in 2006, handset makers’ margins are more and more under pressure. As a consequence, there is a common understanding that the former model where each market segment had its own application suite is obsolete. This is causing delays and costs while bringing no cross-segment software compatibility. It becomes clear that there is a need for a single software platform capable of addressing several market segments, meaning software re-usability and therefore economy of scale for handset makers. And this is what we are offering today.” said Eric Baissus, CEO of Open-Plug. “As a member of Texas Instruments application suite ecosystem, we are committed to work with TI to pre-integrate our framework-based application suite on the TI portfolio and deliver solutions leveraging the performance of OMAP processors and the scalability of “LoCosto” single-chip platforms. By doing so, handset makers can focus on value added activities such as software customization”.

ELIPS Application Suite consists of complete MMI software integrating all the required features such as WAP, MMS, Java, Email, MP3 music player, DRM, video recorder and player, synchronization, and connectivity allowing rapid design of high-end multimedia phones based on TI’s solutions. Additionally to support Chinese and European languages, the MMI supports complex languages, such as Thai, Arabic, Devanagari, etc., which eases phone development for emerging markets. The MMI exists in different profiles with an optimized memory footprint targeting different market segments including low, mid and high-end, making the dream of any handset maker to rely on a single software platform a reality.

ELIPS Application Suite runs on ELIPS Framework and benefits from its award-winning component-based technology bringing the flexibility to easily add and remove applications while simplifying the overall software integration effort. In addition, Open-Plug provides a set of tools enabling simultaneous software development and simulation, software validation and MMI customization.

“The Open-Plug approach to provide a single software solution that can address different market segments is a value to handset manufacturers to quickly get to market,” stated Remi El-Ouazzane, general manager, Texas Instruments 2.5G Business. “Open-Plug’s products are complementary to our 2.5G solutions and by integrating our technologies we are offering a modular solution that meets handset manufacturers’ requirements for optimized cost and fast time-to-market.”
